With a long history of compassionate patient care and bold research discoveries, The Mount Sinai Medical Center is now one of the most active centers for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in the northeast. Our physicians offer procedures and services that avoid the need for intestinal stomas, thus preserving sphincter function and improving quality of life. Our surgeons also apply minimally invasive techniques and a multidisciplinary approach to all aspects of colon and rectal surgery.
Mount Sinai’s Colon and Rectal Surgery services include several procedures that are not widely available. Our surgeons are among the first and only in New York to perform transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM) and stapled transanal rectal resection (STARR). We are also early adopters of the procedure for prolapse and hemorrhoids (PPH), thus continuing the rich legacy of excellence that has made The Mount Sinai Medical Center a world leader in the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders. Every physician in the Colon and Rectal Surgery FPA is a member of the staff of the Mount Sinai Hospital and the faculty of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
